An Australian educational program challenging the world to develop problem solving skills
Tournament of Minds (TOM) offers teams of primary and secondary students the opportunity to solve authentic, open-ended challenges that foster creative, divergent thinking whilst developing collaborative enterprise, excellence and teamwork.
Challenges are set in the following disciplines... The Arts, Language Literature, Social Sciences and STEM.
TOURNAMENT - 2020
We're thinking 'outside the box'
Tournament Day 2020 will be Saturday September 12th
It is not possible for TOM to run the same as in previous years. We do, however, want the Spirit of TOM to continue with all of our schools and their students.
This year, we're thinking outside the box and will be offering an on-line version of the program... a scaled down approach at a much reduced cost.

The learning from TOM can actually be applied to real life. The skills are those that students will use in further study and in the workplace
When I graduated from University and was applying for jobs, many of the interview tasks involved public speaking and team work. I was told I was hired because I had excellent communication and presentation skills, I could work well in a team and lead without being too dominating. I was able to use my time effectively and get along with the other candidates
There's a whole range of Leadership skills that come through from Tournament of Minds that are critical to your later life
My self-worth grew a bit and I became more confident to express my idea because no one was going to shut it down. I slowly just became more and more confident
It sounds a bit corny but the phrase of TOM 'it's the journey, not the destination'. I think it really is so true. At the end of the day it wasn't about winning, I loved the process. Just being involved in it was what I really loved
While it's not possible for the TOM program to run the same as in previous years, we do however want the Spirit of TOM to continue.
So for this year, we're thinking outside the box and will be offering an on-line version of the program... a scaled down approach... at a much reduced cost.
